The ED1 building at La Trobe University’s Bundoora campus serves as the headquarters for the School of Education but has long struggled to meet the school’s evolving needs. As an aging mid-century facility with outdated layouts and limited capacity, it no longer supports the growing Nexus program or the increasingly in-demand SOLAR Lab, both of which are currently dispersed across multiple locations due to space constraints.
The project included extensive internal refurbishment to enhance ED1’s functionality. Key upgrades include dedicated facilities for Nexus and the SOLAR Lab, expanded workspaces for staff and postgraduate students, new meeting rooms, improved communal areas, refreshed amenities, and targeted IT/AV enhancements to strengthen collaboration across campuses and external partners.
Stakeholder Involvement including Public Sector Agencies
Key stakeholders included La Trobe University leadership, faculty representatives, user groups, and operational staff, all of whom contributed to the planning and delivery of the facility.
Project Outcomes
The project is currently on hold due to funding prioritisation; however, Videre Group successfully drove the scope through to a fully resolved tender-ready design package. Throughout this process, the team placed strong emphasis on value-for-money outcomes, ensuring the proposed works delivered maximum benefit within the constrained investment envelope.
