The Parliament of Victoria Committee Hearing Rooms project delivered three new hearing rooms, five large meeting rooms, public galleries, and upgraded public and secure foyers within the existing Parliament House building. The works modernised PoV’s facilities by integrating contemporary AV, broadcast, and operational technologies while maintaining full functionality within a live parliamentary environment.
Because the project occurred in a highly sensitive heritage setting, all design and construction activities were tightly coordinated with Heritage Victoria to protect the building’s historic fabric. The result is a suite of state-of-the-art, fit-for-purpose committee spaces that enhance parliamentary operations while respecting the civic and architectural significance of Parliament House.
Stakeholder Involvement including Public Sector Agencies
Videre was required to manage extensive stakeholder groups (both internal and external) and all with competing priorities. Internal stakeholders included Parliament of Victoria, PoV AVIT, PoV Security and PoV OH&S. External stakeholders who required consultation and input for use within the final built form included Heritage Victoria and City of Melbourne.
Project Outcomes
Despite extensive latent conditions encountered throughout delivery, the project successfully produced a modern, fully integrated suite of committee hearing rooms that enhance accessibility, audio-visual performance, and operational efficiency. Through careful planning within a live parliamentary environment and close collaboration with heritage authorities, the team achieved a high-quality outcome that respects the historic precinct while elevating Parliament’s functional capability for the future.
