Lighting Façade Upgrade

about project

The Parliament of Victoria Lighting Upgrade Project involved the enhancement of the building’s iconic façade through the installation of a new, versatile lighting system designed to support a wide range of purposes. The upgraded system enables Parliament to illuminate the exterior in tailored colour schemes and lighting arrangements to mark significant events, cultural celebrations, and key moments throughout the year, providing a more engaging and dynamic public presence.

As the works were highly visible and undertaken on a landmark building with significant heritage overlays, the project required meticulous planning, sensitive design integration, and careful execution. The result is a modern, flexible lighting solution that elevates the building’s civic identity while respecting the historic character and architectural significance of one of Victoria’s most recognisable public institutions.

Stakeholder Involvement including Public Sector Agencies

Videre was required to manage extensive stakeholder groups (both internal and external) and all with competing priorities. Internal stakeholders included Parliament of Victoria, PoV AVIT, PoV Security and PoV OH&S. External stakeholders who required consultation and input for use within the final built form included Heritage Victoria and City of Melbourne.

Project Outcomes

Despite the challenges of delivering highly visible works on a landmark, heritage-protected façade, Videre Group successfully navigated the complex public interface to deliver a modern, flexible lighting system that significantly enhances Parliament’s civic presence. Through diligent oversight and collaborative coordination with project stakeholders, the team ensured the upgraded façade lighting can support diverse event, seasonal, and ceremonial requirements while preserving the historic character of the Parliament of Victoria.
